Named by Sunday Times in best places for business
February 9, 2020

Delighted to be named by the Sunday Times today in best places for business. The feature on Glasgow names Talking Medicines as one of the start ups to watch. This is really great news for us. We have recently been building our profile having won Future X Start up competition with our Tech for Good proposition & Invested business of the Year with WES 2019.

Jo Halliday, CEO recently wrote an article on Linked in on why competitions & the publicity they bring are so important to scaling companies like Talking Medicines. Jo says “I was thinking about this myself today & came to the conclusion that for the start up/scaling business like ours competitions really are an important part of the learning journey. For us, every one has its own role & from each we can come away with a rich experience win or lose. That’s the thing – entrepreneurship is one big learning journey, if it hasn’t been done before then there is always a new path to carve out & competitions can help in that process. A few highlights for me are :

NETWORK

A lot of time & effort goes into organising these competitions & the quality of entrants is high. Coming across Companies from different locations, backgrounds & at different stages all helps inspire & encourage your own journey. The networking post competition events are strong & competitors along with sponsors can offer a great source of fresh ideas and support which is very welcome.

PITCHING

Honing in on the key messages in a pitch deck is an essential skill both for investment, sales, partnerships & having strong mentorship on what those pitch slides should contain is a great support. The harsh reality of having to pitch is at times uncomfortable but really helps sharpen up messaging.

MENTORSHIP

Many of the awards offer ongoing or follow up mentorship both in UK & for us in US which has really added significant value, & since offered without charge a welcome addition to team development and product/market fit.

PLATFORM & PUBLICITY

Whilst it may look like vanity it is also sanity. All good start ups need a platform to tell their story & the stage/press are very good places to do that especially where the coverage is in new publications & to new audiences. People are very kind in giving time & support once they understand an opportunity & awards can raise that awareness through publicity.”

We hope to maintain a high profile, every mention and competition win brings with it opportunity & a chance to tell our story which we enjoy doing.
