Equity vs Equality

International Women’s Day 2023 is here and thought provoking in its campaign theme.

It’s asking us to go beyond equality toward fully embracing equity.  Giving people what they need to be able to succeed does not mean giving them all the same to make them equal. Equity and equality are not the same thing since we don’t all start in the same place.  “Equality is giving everyone a shoe. Equity is giving everyone a shoe that fits”.  (Female Founders Forum, One in a Million Report 2022)

Reflecting on the year Talking Medicines, Jo Halliday (CEO, Founder), Elizabeth Fairley (CDO, Founder) have championed the need to unlock female entrepreneurship to double the number of female entrepreneurs by 2030 – “this is not just the right thing to do, it is good for women, their families, for UK business and the country’s economy overall.” (Female Founders Forum, One in a Million Report 2022)

In creating Talking Medicines, we believe passionately in the equity of investment to female run businesses and the need to recognise/badge them to track how we are doing as a Nation.  As a life science tech company, we celebrate the gender mix within our own team.

Happy International Women’s Day from Talking Medicines.
